Our
Mission
We will dip our rear tire in the Pacific Ocean, head south out of the LA area
along the coast before turning east to ride through deserts 200' below sea
level. We will climb to over 8,000'
to cross the Rockies, and spend 18 days or so crossing Texas.
We will travel through the bayou and pass through downtown New Orleans.
We will pass through or near 4 state capitals before dipping our front tire in
the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville.
Along the way, we hope to raise funds for two charitable operations, St. Anne's Project Hope Ministry, which assists individuals and families in emergency crises, and the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative, which promotes responsible fatherhood by equipping men to be better fathers and father figures. Please take a look at their web sites; below you will have an opportunity to share with them via PayPal. 100% of your gift will go to the charity that you choose; there are no fund-raising administrative costs and your donation will not go toward financing our adventure.
We plan to meet local residents in every area that we visit, learn
about their lifestyles, and share ours. We hope to find and learn about new things every
day. We plan to play baseball, go fishing, and laugh our way across the
USA.
We have several schools that are following our adventure in the classroom.
We hope that many students will be able to join in our education as we report on
weather conditions, provide descriptions of topography, collect soil/water
samples, interview people of different cultures, etc.. We will provide timely
answers in any of several formats (.jpg, .doc, .wav, .mov) to questions
presented us. Our trip may help some students with map-reading skills and the
math required to determine daily goals and speed averages.
We plan to create a PowerPoint-type presentation for Will to give to school
groups upon our return that will highlight things we hope to learn about
fitness, teamwork, reaching for goals, and enjoying life.
